Navigation open or closed?

THE latest notice from Canal & River Trust leaves doubt as to whether the Trent is open or closed.

Though it states that the navigation is open, it also states 'we have made the decision to temporarily close this section of the navigation'.

This refers to the section of the river near Barton Island, between Bridge 5 and the towpath bridge on the non-tidal Trent, Keith Gudgin reports.

Firmly stuck

It was at the end of January that we reported that boats were being grounded around that section of the river, but with more boats firmly stuck in the silt, the navigation is being closed whilst a dredger can be brought to the site, with the trust stating that this is a matter of urgency.

As to whether or not it is open, the trust does not seem to know!
