River navigations still affected by storm damage

YET another river navigation is still closed owing to the recent floods.
The residue of debris left at Beal Lock (4) on the Aire has left it still closed to navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.
All of the river navigations were unnavigable at one time or another during the number of floods caused by the excessive rain on sodden ground, pouring into the rivers.
Cluttered with debris
Like many others Beal Lock is cluttered with debris that is stopping navigation.
Other locks too are in a similar position caused by the many floods over such a short period of time, and it is understood it will be a while until all are clear, especially as the storms, with the rain, keep coming.
In the case of Beal Lock, contractors are at present attempting to clear the debris.
