Another culvert collapses

CULVERTS are failing like flies these days, one after another closing waterways.
The latest one to fail is on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal below Acton Trussell, Keith Gudgin reports.
Sinkhole discovered
A sinkhole has been discovered by the culvert near Deptmore Lock (42) and has closed the waterway, the trust allowing a controlled amount of water through the lock to prevent further damage.
Controlling the water escaping will also prevent the potential flooding of a nearby property.
A priority assessment will show the extent of the culvert collapse, the trust telling that culvert collapses are often complex to assess and fix, so it is too early to give a date on when the navigation will reopen.
