Narrowboats only on Aire & Calder at Whitley Lock

IT HAS not been possible to resolve the problem with Whitney Lock (12) on the Aire & Calder Navigation.

It was closed after a failed power pack on Monday, with the Mechanical & Engineering Team unable to solve the problem, Keith Gudgin reports.

But the team has been able to make the lock available to narrowboats but not broad beams, for which the navigation was constructed.

Whilst the work and testing is underway the lock has been made available for narrowboats only.

This will start tomorrow, Friday 17th, between the hours of 10am and 2pm daily until the lock can be brought back  to safe user operation. Image by Pennine Waterways.
