Only four boats a week through Leicester
THE Canal & River Trust state that just four boats a week will be allowed through the damaged section through Leicester.
This is where considerable damage was caused on the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal when the Soar flooded into the canal, causing over 50 metres of bank to collapse, as shown, as Keith Gugin reported.
12pm each Wednesday
Assisted passage will be available at 12pm each Wednesday for up to four boats, but pre-booking is required to pass through the damaged part of the waterway between Blue Bank Lock (37) and Kings Lock (38) that will commence, the stoppage notice states, on Sunday 22 October 2023 12:45 until further notice.
This is obviously incorrect as 22nd October is a Friday and is in the past.
A further notice confirms passage will be on Wednesdays and only four boats allowed through.
To book your passage please contact
or call on 0303 0404 4040 (option 2 then 5).
UPDATE—Passage will start on Wednesday 15th November.
