Caldon Canal reopens after silt cleared

THE silt washed down from the river has now been cleared from the Caldon Canal

This has reopened for navigation with the advice to take care, Keith Gudgin reports.

Closed nearly three months ago

It was on the 9th February, nearly three months ago, that more silt washed down from the Churnet it building up over the years and reached the stage when the waterway was unnavigable.

There were problems getting the equipment to the site and delay with the contractors, that turned it into a long job.

But the dredging is now completed and the navigation was opened yesterday, Thursday.
