Freight preparation on the Aire & Calder

IT WAS last October that it was announced the Aire & Calder Navigation was being prepared for freight.

Using the waterways for freight between between Goole and Leeds, with a facility at Stourton with interest from prospective operators, as published in narrowboatworld.

Preparation?

But does this preparation include all those broken locks? 

On Wednesday we published that during the space of three weeks four locks were out of action on the Aire & Calder, but now yet another—King's Road Lock (3) Keith Gudgin reports has failed with an electrical fault putting it out of action.

So that's five locks closing the waterway in just three weeks—at the end of 'winter maintenance'.
