Fire closes Leeds & Liverpool for over a week

 

THE fire that closed the Leeds & Liverpool on the 10th of February still has it closed over a week later.

The fire at a building on the offside of the canal at Withell Fold Bridge (88) at Riley Green closed the navigation as the building was not deemed to be safe, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not stable

Boaters were then informed that, once the emergency services had controlled and extinguished the fire, "we will then need to ensure the third-party building is stable to allow passage through this area."

Obviously Canal & River Trust do not believe it is stable so have kept the navigation closed.

There is not intimation when it will either be made safe or demolished.
