Normal procedure—the Wink on the blink!

THE Winkwell Swing Bridge on the Grand Union Canal is on the blink again.
This time it's one of its normal reasons for failure—the Hemel Hempstead swing bridge is out of action 'due to a fault', Keith Gudgin reports.
Two regularly fail
This is one of the two swing bridges that regularly fail for one reason or another, the other being the Coxhead on the Leeds & Liverpool.
Being 'repaired' and yet constantly failing can only point to poor workmanship by contractors.
It last failed six months ago in June and again six months before that in January 2022.
