Still the Leeds & Liverpool Canal fails

Published: Saturday, 14 January 2023

MAKING it the fith failure this year comes news of another bridge failure.

This time it is Hancocks Swing Bridge  at Aintree that is out of action, Keith Gudgin reports.

This failed yesterday, Friday, and as is often the case, 'by a mechanical failure'.

Parts not readily available

Again the parts required are not readily available but have to be sourced, with the information that when located the engineers will be back on site to undertake the repair.

This bridge failed in June 2019, August 2020 and February 2022, so a regular failure though not as bad as others such as the famed Coxhead.

Again, the Canal & River Trust stoppage notice names it the Handcocks, surely showing that it is not checked.
