THE HUDDERSFIELD NARROW was closed on the 1st of May through lack of water.
And is still closed, Keith Gudgin reports.
Six months later
This is six months later, with all that we are told is that there will be a review on the 19th September.
The problem of course is that there are so many locks over so short a distance that their pounds are very short, and with lack if dredging, they become unavigable unless the pounds are completely full.
The locks are from 1E to 42E, from Huddersfield to the tunnel. But of course there are leaking gates, that then empties the pound, as pictured.
North West section open
However we are told that the The North West section of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal is now open.
This is from the the start of the canal at Ashton-under-Lyme up to the tunnel.
