THE EREWASH CANAL IN LONG EATON is to be transformed into a recreational waterside.
Together with a new bridge over the waterway.
£25m Town Deal
This is part of a £25m Town Deal investment in Long Eaton, that will see the old bridge over the canal replaced and the site of the old Galaxy Cinema, that has been demolished, as part of the development.
The bank of the waterway will be transformed into a recreational waterside, for people to relax by the water as the artistes' impression shows.
The space created by the demolition of the cinema will be used for affordable housing.
Erewash Borough Council has been given £25m of government funding to rejuvenate the town five years ago with plans prepared in 2021.
Various set-backs
But various set-backs have prevented work starting, but all is now ready for work to begin, with a new spectacular bridge over the waterway once the present one is demolished.
The projects have been delayed by consultations between contractors, design teams, the Canal & River Trust, the Environment Agency and Erewash Borough Council.
