Two more winter works cancelled

THAT long list of winter stoppages looked very impressive indeed, but alas not so now, as two more have been cancelled.

Two more Canal & River Trust winter stoppages 'bite the dust', having been cancelled from that long list that is getting shorter virtually week by week, as Keith Gudgin reports.

Now its the winter work to replace a failed ground paddle post on Lock 25 in Berkhamsted on the Grand Union Canal that has been cancelled, with the reason/excuse that 'our equipment and resources fully deployed on other stoppages and priority works, we are postponing these repairs'. The notice states 'Navigation: Closed'.

Leeds & Liverpool Canal

Once again it is the Leeds & Liverpool Canal that gets a cancellation of its the winter works, this time to undertake resin grouting at locks 68 and 83 that needs to be put behind the lock walls to fill up any voids and prevent deterioration of the lock structure as been cancelled.

It is stated 'Navigation closure', so as winding holes are given to turn, would signify the navigation is closed. This time the reason/excuse is 'we have to constantly review our priorities and having already assigned additional budget to the grouting programme to accommodate additional works, this project has been re-prioritised to accommodate higher priority works.
