Mercia helps Derbyshire CVS Winter Giving Campaign

MERCIA Marina has once again had Santa and his special marina grotto this year.

Visitors delighted

Over the weekends in December leading up to Christmas, children could visit the grotto free of charge to see Santa and his elves, post a letter to the big man himself, and even receive a present. Visitors were delighted with the surprise of seeing Santa at a marina and children couldn’t hide their excitement.

With the cost of living crisis and so much woe in the world it seems only fitting that a little bit of Christmas cheer is scattered around so that all can enjoy this special time of year. With a big smile in the rain and cold, Santa greeted every child and family that came to see him and gave out a free gift to the excited children as well as answering some tricky Christmas list questions.

Handed over £500

This was all free of charge with free parking and no need to book. In return, all that was asked was a donation to South Derbyshire CVS Winter Giving Campaign, and the marina were thrilled to hand over £500 to the cause through donations.

Due to the dire economy and rising food prices, food banks are seeing an unprecedented increase in need. South Derbyshire CVS Food Hub strives to make sure that no one has to go hungry.

It offers a service where the individual is central, ensuring that their clients physical and mental wellbeing are equally safeguarded. By creating a warm, welcoming environment and a space for healthy conversations, CVS endeavour to reduce the stigma attached to people accessing a Food Bank.
