Severe winter restrictions on the Severn

THE Canal & River Trust is bringing in severe winter restrictions on the Severn.

For starters, from the 1st November it will only be open five days a week, it being closed to navigation on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Keith Gudgin reports.

Then as the locks will be unmanned it will be 'try your luck' to get a volunteer lock keeper by telephone booking—and 24 hours in advance at that!

The only listed locks where a telephone booking can be made are Lincomb, Holt, Bevere (pictured), Diglis and Upper Lode Locks, on 01452 310832 or 07717 681086.

As to the others no advice is forthcoming.
