New ghost ship on the Weaver!

THE Anderton Boat Lift is closed until the end of the year tells Canal & River Trust.

It is not safe to use as the gate lifting mechanism is liable to drop unexpectedly so is closed to all boats, David Collins reports.

Yet here is a boat actually in the lift this week, having come down from the Trent & Mersey Canal—obviously another ghost ship!

The long closure is due to the installation of new equipment in the gate lifting mechanisms but with the boat lift such a unique structure new components have to be designed, manufactured, and tested, we were told, yet it is obviously still being used.
