Dying fish close Lee Navigation

Published: Saturday, 20 August 2022

THE Lee Navigation is closed at Ponders End as fish are dying.

The fish are dying by the east side of Ponder's Lock (14) due to low oxygen levels, Keith Gudgin reports.

Poor oxygen levels

The fish population in the reduced water level is dying off, it is understood as the silted navigation has so little water it has poor oxygen levels.

The Environment Agency is involved with Canal & River Trust that is having to pump in water to refresh the level to stop more fish dying off.

In the meantime the Lee Navigation is closed for boating whilst this is carried out.
