Two more canal closures

TWO more canals are closed through lack of water.
The Chesterfield and Huddersfield Broad canals are both closed to navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.
Attempt to allow navigation
The Chesterfield Canal is closed from Lock 41 up to the east tunnel portal and the Huddersfield Broad Canal over its entire length, though water is being let down from the Huddersfield Narrow to attempt to allow navigation.
Yet the 'Narrow' is actually closed through lack of water.
Ashton reopened
The good news is that the Ashton has reopened with the levels recuperating but the warning that if these decrease the canal will have to be closed again.
The lack of rain is certainly having an effect.
