Northern navigations closing down

BOTH the Huddersfield Narrow and the Caldon canals are shortly to be closed, Canal & River Trust warn

This is in addition to the Peak Forest and Macclesfield canals that will remain closed until water levels have recovered enough for safe navigation.

Leeds & Liverpool

And the Leeds & Liverpool Canal will be temporarily closed to navigation between Wigan Lock Flight and Gargrave from next Monday 18th July.

It is told that the Huddersfield Narrow and Caldon canals will close from Monday 1st August with reduced operating hours before that, unless there is a 'significant improvement in water levels'.

Rochdale

The Rochdale Canal too will see reduced operating hours from next Monday coupled with the warning that the canal could be completely closed down at short notice.

Not forgetting the closure on the Ouse and the Pocklington Canal...

All in all this means the northern canals are now no longer available for navigation, or soon will not be.
