Stuck at Keadby

ONCE again the rail draw bridge on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal is 'unable to operate'.

This is the bridge that when pulled back allows boats to pass through Keadby Lock onto or off the tidal Trent, that has a 'habit' of not working.

KeadbySlidingBridgeWe were stuck

It was way back in 2002 when we were making for the Rochdale Canal that we were stuck for a day, together with other boats wanting to cruise the Stainforth & Keadby for various destinations or leave it to catch the tide up to Newark.

Our photograph was taken after the bridge control was repaired and the bridge at last opened.

Other instances

Since then there have been other instances of its failure, with it often depending if 'the man' is available and if so it is repaired quickly and so does not even warrant a stoppage notice.

But obviously, as in the case of 'our' stoppage, 'the man' is not available!
