Not looking good

IT IS certainly not looking good for boating this summer with another two major waterways closed over Easter.

It was Victor who pointed out that up to Easter there had been 16 'Navigation Closed' notices issued already in April by Canal & River Trust, with two more major waterways added to the list over Easter.

Closed over Easter

Both the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union and Atherstone Flight on the Coventry had been closed over the Easter holidays with may boaters obviously affected, especially with Cholmondeston Lock on the Middlewich close to two big marinas, and their boaters obviously becoming trapped.

The Middlewich closure was caused by the usual 'structure failure' with the Atherstone Flight closed as paddles on Lock 8 would not allow the lock to be drained.

Keith Gudgin reports that the Middlewich reopened yesterday, Tuesday, as did the Atherstone.
