Another swing bridge fails
Published: Thursday, 24 February 2022
WITH very little boating traffic in what has proved a stormy February, swing bridges should be getting little use.
Yet they are failing, to put it one way—left, right and centre, with three failures in the past week as Keith Gudgin reports.
Mechanical failure
The failure of the Oxlease Swing Bridge (33) at Woolhampton on the Kennet & Avon is the latest to break, we are told with a mechanical failure.
This occurred yesterday and the only further information we are given is that Canal & River Trust is aware.
This is the second time it has failed within a year, it being out of action in late June last year, again with a mechanical failure.
LATEST:
The problem has been sorted and the navigation reopened, yesterday, Thursday.
