Daw End Canal closed for most of the season

THE Daw End Canal is to be closed for most of the season from May to September.
The reason is the replacement of Black Cock Bridge at Walsall Wood as the life span of its structure has expired, Keith Gudgin reports.
No through navigation
This means that there will be no through navigation for five months between the Wyrley and Essington Canal at Brownhills and the Rushall Canal at Aldridge. The actual dates of closure are from Monday 9th May until Friday 21st October.
These dates are subject the council giving planning permission for the work and are expected to be confirmed in April.
The existing steel structure will be demolished, but the existing brick abutments will be reused in the construction of a new bridge deck.
