Silt closes Caldon
Published: Wednesday, 09 February 2022
SILT washed down into the the river section of the Caldon Canal has closed the navigation.
The river comes into the canal below Oakmeadowford Lock (16), and it is here that silt has been building up over the years and has now reached the stage when the waterway is unavigable, Keith Gudgin reports.
No notice when reopened
This means the Caldon is closed until it can be dredged, but there is no intimation of a dredger in the vicinity so there is no notice of when the navigation can be reopened.
We are informed that a dredging team are working to resolve the problem.
