Three bridges out of action already this week

THIS has been a bad week so far with bridges breaking down, yet only Wednesday!

Tuesday saw Hancocks Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool and Wrenbury Lift Bridge on the Llangollen failing, then on Wednesday once again the 'Wink on the blink"—Winkwell Swing Bridge on the Grand Union Canal at Hemel Hempstead once again out of action, Keith Gudgin reports.

WinkwellBoth closed twice already this year

This is the second time Wrenbury Lift Bridge has failed this year as has the Winkwell Swing Bridge, with the Winkwell (pictured) last year too, and in the past a reported nine times in one year.

But at last Canal & River Trust seem to be responding, with both the Hancock's and the Wrenbury repaired the following days.

But as to the Winkwell, we are still waiting.

And it really is time it was sorted once and for all for as Keith exclaimed—"It's closed...no it's not, it's open....no it's not, it's closed...it's just a bloody pantomime!"
