Should have repaired paddle

THE Huddersfield Broad Canal is closed to navigation.

The bottom gates of Longland's Lock (4) on the Huddersfield Broad Canal  had only been operating on one paddle, and that too has now broken, Keith Gudgin reports.

No longer be emptied

Of course, this means that the lock, also known as Vernon's Lock, can longer be emptied and so the navigation is closed

Canal & River Trust state it is working to resource a team to repair this paddle fault as soon as possible.  But as Keith relates—'If they had fixed the first paddle when it broke then the lock would not be closed now'.

Alas it seems nowadays that is asking too much as best to wait until they both break.
