Lock gate reseated

Published: Saturday, 31 July 2021

THE lock gate that was unseated on the Shropshire Union Canal has been reinstated.

It was not stated how this occured, only that a gate had come out of its mounting and on the 26th of July, Keith Gudgin reported.

Navigation closed

This was at Bunbury Lower Lock (14) with the navigation then closed until contractors could get equipment at the site to replace it.

A crane was required to lift and reseat the gate and there was the need to fit a replacement steel plate, which  required scaffolding.

Severed

The jack head had also been severed from the impact to the gate and had to be replaced.  All is now complete and the navigation re-opened.
