Police investigating Chesterfield Canal vandalism

SUCH is the state of the vandalism on the Chesterfield Canal that the police have been brought in to investigate.

In addition to the canal being drained by paddles opened between Doefield Dun Lock (45) and Kiveton Dog Kennel Bridge (31) mechanisms have been damaged, Keith Gudgin reports.

Investigating the damage

This occurred on Wednesday evening, and today the drained waterway is being refilled and engineers are investigating the damage that has been caused.

This means that this section of the canal is closed until it has been ascertained that the damage can be rectified and the pounds refilled.

The police carried out their own investigations this morning.
