THE damage by overweight vehicles to Selby Swing Bridge on the Selby Canal has caused its closure.

SelbySwingIt was in March that the damaged occurred with various work and closures ever since and a design put forward for a temporary footbridge that is still being finalised.

Bridge will be removed

It is now expected the defective bridge will be removed and the navigation reopened in mid-July.

It is hoped that it will be possible to make an emergency swing of the bridge to allow boat passage should those moored in the area wish to move.

The Selby Canal connects the Aire & Calder with the Ouse and is used by boaters to bypass the lower reaches of the tidal Ouse.
