Storm causing havoc on the waterways
THE storm has caused a further breach on the Shropshire Union Canal and a landslide has closed the Trent & Mersey Canal.
The breach is between Wharton's Lock (10) and Beeston Iron Lock (11) and is causing loss of water with the navigation and towpath closed, Keith Gudgin reports.
Landslide
The landslide has closed the Trent & Mersey Canal at Bridge 200 at Soot Hill, Anderton, with once again both the navigation and the towpath closed.
The flood water rushing down the hill into the canal has brought down structures, earth, trees and vegetation and will be a major undertaking to clear. Photograph courtesy of Phil Dailey.
Further problems
There can be no intimation as to when these can be attended to as further problems around the system are being reported as the waters recede leaving destruction in their wake.
