Discovered the reason

THERE was quite a bit of head scratching by CaRT operatives as to why Leeds Lock would not operate.

But it was finally discovered why the lock on the junction with the Aire & Calder and Leeds & Liverpool canals would not work—its sensor operating box containing the electronics were flooded, Keith Gudgin reports.

No passage for boats

This meant that the sensor would not operate and so neither would the lock, so there was no passage for boats.

Perhaps the box will now be relocated above the flood water line!

The problem has caused the lock to be closed since Friday, but it is now being attended to.
