CaRT blames vandals for Atherstone gate dropped in lock

THE Canal & River Trust has distributed a Press Release blaming vandals for the gate dropped in an Atherstone Lock.

The Press Release, that has been published by Birmingham Live tells 'Vandals have stolen the pins from the lock collar which keep the gate in position'.

Contractors already on site

This was not withstanding that staff were already on site and tackle was there with all the safety fencing erected, to repair a broken collar.

Also there are of course no 'pins' holding the collar as was stated.

The photograph clearly shows the top of the gate at the bottom of the lock and its beam upright, yet should it have been released by vandals, the weight of the beam would have pulled it over and been down in the water.
