Work starts on Figure of Three repair

IT WAS way back in February that storm Ciara washed away part of the Figure of Three Locks on the Calder & Hebble Navigation.

At last, after six months, work has started on its repair on this major route closure, Keith Gudgin reports.

Long delay

The lock was severely damaged by the storm with part of it being washed away, but lack of available funds have meant such a long delay in the start of its repair.

This closure means that there is no access between either the Rochdale or Huddersfield canals and the Aire & Calder, Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation or the Trent until it is repaired.

Spring next year

In the first instance it was stated that it would take 12 months to repair.  The latest information is that it will not be until Spring of next year when the repair will be completed, by contractor's Keir.
