Red diesel consultation launched

Published: Wednesday, 22 July 2020

THE government has launched its consultation on the uses of red diesel and boaters can have their say.

During the Spring Budget the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, told of his plans to review the current use of red diesel, and that there would be a consultation as to its tax rebate that was launched yesterday, Tuesday.

Opportunity to respond

There is the possibility that this rebate for use of red diesel for boats will be removed, but boaters have the opportunity to respond to the possibility of the removal of entitlement to use red diesel, that comes into force in April  2022.

The red diesel consultation seeks to gather evidence as to whether sectors, including recreational boating, should be allowed to maintain use of the discounted fuel beyond April 2022.

Climate change

The decision by the government to withdraw red diesel from wider use has been motivated by its intention to tackle climate change.

You can have your say in this matter until the consultation closes on the 1st October 2020. Click here.
