AN INQUEST into a drowning last year in the Rochdale Nine heard that it was the 28th in the waterway.

So with the Rochdale closed again in Manchester, and because of an 'unidentified obstruction' in  Princess Street Lock (87) is it yet another body?

Stopping gates from operating

Canal & River Trust have been unable to remove the object that is stopping the gates from operating, with another attempt being made today, Monday, using specialist equipment, Keith Gudgin reports.

Manchester is regarded as the drowning capital of the country, with a further inquest into the death of another victim being told it was the 87th, in all occurrences  since 2007.
