IF EVER the waterways are fully re-opened it will be a vastly reduced system.

For not only are there doubts of major waterways being entirely closed, normal repairs are being delayed owing to 'social distancing' as of course the towpaths have been open throughout causing the problems.

The latest to be affected is the Kennet & Avon Canal with Heathy Close Lock (52) having a broken gate that cannot be repaired 'until further notice', Keith Gudgin reports.

But Canal & River Trust tell that it is pleased to advise that its 'Direct Services Team'—another new fancy title!—have planned the repairs that will only take a day to complete.
