Low water levels close the Rochdale

UNLIKE the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, it is thankfully not the whole canal that is closed but a pound at Todmorden.

The pound between locks 25 and 26 is closed due to low levels of water, Keith Gudgin reports.

Will take six days

Canal & River Trust state it was closed yesterday (Thursday) and will remain closed until Wednesday 20th, so it will take six days to fill a few hundred yards pound.

But Keith asks if no one is using it how does it lose all it's water?  The obvious answer is the usual—it is leaking so badly, which does not give much confidence for the future.
