Is foam the new 'wonder' solution to leaks?

THE leak on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal opposite Arley Golf Course at Wigan has been sealed quickly and cheaply using foam.

Dugald Campbell, who first told us of this method explains:

"The leak has been sealed now using Urethane foam, with the attached picture taken by Malcolm Holbrook showing the drill holes and the foam.  The run off has drained quickly and is just a muddy area now.  It will be interesting to see how long this repair lasts!"

Quick solution

So is this going to be the quick solution to the many leaks that appear in the waterways, so saving the time and expense of rebuilding banks thus causing waterways to be closed to navigation?
