Tinsley Locks closed

AFTER many years of failures, two new pumps were to be installed last month at Tinsley Locks on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation, boaters then expecting years of good service.

We were told the new pumps would stop the constant failures and that the navigation would re-open today, 2nd April, Keith Gudgin reports.

Essential to reach services

But all the information we have received from Canal & River Trust is that the navigation is closed due to a problem with a pipeline.

It is not known if the new pumps were actually installed or not in view of the coronavirus lockdown, only that the navigation is 'closed until further notice.'

Though the Trust inform boaters 'Customers are reminded to move only if it is essential to reach services', services need to be reached at Sheffield Basin for boaters moored below the locks.
