No promised emergency repair

THOUGH Canal & River Trust promised an 'emergency repair' to Netherton Swing Bridge (6) on the Leeds & Liverpool, this is not to be.

The bridge, that failed on the 11th of December, is still out of action and will be until the new year, Keith Gudgin reports.

The bridge is stuck in the closed position for road traffic and obviously unavailable to boaters.

The good news

The good news is that engineers have assessed the damage, and we are informed 'considerable works will take place to refurbish the swing bridge'.

Boaters must surely hope this will cure the problems with the bridge for good.
