Should properly dredge rivers

Recent events and reports have again opened up opinion on the pros and cons of dredging rivers, writes Howard Clarke.

I am not an engineer, I do not live near a river but I suggest that not dredging rivers is not working.  Whatever the opinion of the EA engineers and scientists it is now time to try something different.

Same concerns as CaRT

They seem to have the same concerns about rivers as CaRT do about canals but missing the not so sexy practical aspects.

A volte-face is required, they need to swallow their pride and properly dredge a number of rivers as a sample.  I suppose if dredging worked they would be open to huge criticism about their inertia in the past.

They should give it a go. Just ask the people of Fishlake.
