No restaurant boat for Skipton

THE plans for a restaurant boat at Skipton on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal have been refused.

This is the second time that the plans for a £300,000 restaurant boat had been submitted by the Rendezvous Hotel for a boat to cruise the waterway and the second time refused by Craven District Council, Alan Tilbury reports.

Heated debate

In a somewhat heated debate, at which the council solicitor repeatedly warned the applicants against interrupting councillors, the Planning Committee was told of the time talking to the Rendezvous Hotel about necessary measures needed to get its application approved, that had not been undertaken.

The meeting was told of the several conditions that had been suggested, including times the restaurant boat could be in operation and noise reduction as it cruised the waterway, but the new scheme was in excess of the original.

The representative of the hotel was told that the application was refused, but the comments of the committee should be taken on board and to return with an amended plan.
