THE extreme heat of earlier this week proved too much for one man who took to swimming in the Shropshire Union Canal in Chester—naked.

The result was that John Stuart was spotted and the police called and he was arrested, Alan Tilbury reports.

Drunk and disorderly

Not arrested for swimming but for swearing and being aggressive towards members of the public, so was hauled up before the magistrates on a charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

The prosecutor told the court of his previous nine convictions for  offences, upon which John Stuart began swearing at the prosecutor from the dock.

Magistrates sentenced Stuart to a four months conditional discharge.
