Standedge Tunnel now open

STANDEDGE Tunnel that was closed on Monday has now been reopened.

The failure of the communication system in the Huddersfield Narrow Canal tunnel meant that it was not safe for boats to be allowed through, and it had to be closed whilst components for the system were sourced, Keith Gudgin reported.

These components for the system have been delivered and installed on Thursday, meaning the tunnel is now open for the booked boats.  .

Without a reliable communication system boat passage through the long tunnel is considered unsafe, and are monitored in conjuction with the adjoining disused railway tunnel through connecting passages, known as adits, with one shown in the photograph with the very well known Fred checking that all is well.
