Quick repair on Rochdale 'bed' leak

Published: Wednesday, 15 May 2019

THOUGH the Rochdale Canal was closed yesterday, Tuesday, a quick repair had it open later in the afternoon.

It was stated that the closure was caused by a 'bed leak through an old trunk let-off valve', Keith Gudgin reports.

Reopened

This was between locks 61 and 62 at Chadderton, but workers quickly diagnosed the problem that was quickly rectified and the waterway reopened.

It is not stated what a 'bed' leak is, but assumed it has something to do with the canal bed, yet it is thought that anything concerning the bed would need the canal to be drained, but wasn't. Unless it was another Cartism and should have read 'bad' leak... Who knows?
