Pumps working again on Wryley & Essington

A TEMPORARY pump has been installed on the Wryley & Essington Canal with it now re-opened.
The canal was re-opened over the week-end after three of the four pumps failed and the navigation closed, with two back-up pumps to be installed if required, Keith Gudgin reports.
Worst canal
The pumps will lift water from the Birmingham Level to the Wolverhampton Level and so to the Wryley & Essington, that it may be remembered our David Hymers thought was so bad he considered it the worst state of any canal in his 50 odd years of cruising.
Canal & River Trust is also in communication with Staffordshire County Council, the owners of Chasewater Reservoir, and Natural England to secure a feed into the canal.
