T&M open again today

THE top gate of Common Lock is back in position and water level should allow navigation today.

The lock below Fradley Junction on the Trent & Mersey Canal was closed on Wednesday as the gate had come out of its mounting making it inoperable, and though an attempt was made to manually get it back in position this was found impossible, Keith Gudgin reported.

Placed back in position

However a gantry was brought in yesterday and erected that allowed the gate to be lifted and placed back in position.

The pound had to be drained to ascertain the gate fitted correctly, but the level was expected to be back to normal levels yesterday evening.
