Wasps nest in a lock beam

IT IS not saying much for the condition of a lock beam when it will accomodate a wasps nest!

For that is what has happened at Blockhouse Lock (4) on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, with a wasps nest being discovered in the actual lock beam, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Take care

So boaters using the lock are advised to take care to avoid being stung when operating the lock, with it still in use, as some people can have a violent allergic reaction to such stings

If a beam can accommodate a wasps nest then it really is in a condition when it needs replacing, as such beams are rather solid if in good condition.
