It WAS a boater's fault

IT WAS a boater who put one of the mechanical locks out of action for the week at Sawley on the Trent.

LockClosedSawley2A boater had attempted to remove the key from the lock even though he/she had left the bottom paddles up and had not the sense to first turn the key into its 'remove' position.

Broke it

The boater had obviously attempted to wrestle the key out of the lock using a sharp tool in an attempt to prise it out, though it was of course locked in, but breaking it inside the lock in the process.

This happened over last week-end, but with only one service team available for the area that was busy elsewhere, the lock had to remain closed. But with the second lock working, it caused no great problem
