More work on Buckingham Canal

THERE were extra hands helping theĀ  Buckingham Canal Society, as volunteers came together during Volunteers Week to help with the canal restoration project at Cosgrove.

They included volunteers from Santander during a community day, with the workers clearing an overgrown stretch of vegetation on the Buckingham canal at Cosgrove, close to the A5.

Siphon System

The society recently installed a siphon system at the other end of the canal to keep part of it in water, and it is hoped that this will be extended to the rest of the canal in the near future. The canal links with the Grand Union at Cosgrove.

Athina Beckett, Buckingham Canal Society's Volunteer Leader and Work Party Organiser was pleased with what was achieved on the day, exclaiming:

"Our volunteers enjoy working with groups from outside companies and Santander gives its staff the time off to work with local charities and help the community. It is a great opportunity to get extra hands helping us to restore the canal and we are really pleased with the progress we made on the day."
